CENER, THE ONLY ENAC ACCREDITED LABORATORY FOR THE PYRHELIOMETERS CALIBRATION IN SPAIN

CENER Solar Thermal Testing Laboratory has been accredited by ENAC for the calibration service of Field Pyrheliometers. This converts CENER into the first and only accredited laboratory in Spain for the pyranometers and pyrheliometers calibration.

The calibration methodology used for determining the pyrheliometer calibration factor is based on the International Standard ISO 9059 – “Solar energy – Calibration of field pyrheliometers by comparison to a reference pyrheliometer”.

The calibration tests are performed outdoors with a solar tracker, suitable for direct solar radiation measurement equipment. The test measurements are performed at the CENER BSRN radiometric station located in Sarriguren (Navarra).

Nowadays, in addition to the activities above mentioned, Measurement and Characterization Area at Solar Thermal Energy Department in CENER is a reference in:

  • Pyranometers Calibration: Based on the International Standard ISO 9847 – “Solar Energy- Calibration of field pyranometers by comparison to a reference pyranometer”. The calibration tests are performed outdoors on a horizontal mounting position, suitable for meteorological and resource measurement equipment. The test measurements are performed at the CENER BSRN radiometric station located in Sarriguren (Navarra).
  • Evaluation and Characterisation of Systems and Components:Thermal Performance and Durability Tests of collectors and thermal solar systems (Standards EN-12975, EN-12976, OG-100). CSP Components testing.
  • Solar Radiation Estimation: Development and improvement of direct solar radiation models, Estimation of global and direct radiation from satellite images, Estimation of solar radiation from Numerical Weather Prediction (MWP) Models, TMY generation including solar radiation and related variables.
  • Measurement of Solar Radiation: Guidance on the configuration and setting up of measurement stations, Monitoring of the measurement station, Treatment and quality control of recorded data.
  • Solar Radiation Forecasting: daily, hourly and intradaily solar radiation forecasting.
