THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF CENER TO GIVE A CONFERENCE ABOUT RENEWABLE ENERGIES IN JAPAN

El Director General de CENER ofrecerá una conferencia sobre renovables en Japón

The Managing Director of CENER, José Javier Armendáriz, will be giving a conference about renewable energies and energy savings on Monday 14th November at an event organised by the Spain-Japan forum, which will be held in the city of Sendai, attended by representatives from Japan’s institutions and business sector.

Armendáriz will be the Spanish speaker at the session moderated by José Eugenio Salarich, Director General of International Economic Relations and Energy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. The Japanese speaker will be Hideo Hato, Vice President of the NEDO Energy Resources Agency (METI). There will then be a discussion featuring several representatives of companies and institutions from both countries.

The XIV edition of the Spain-Japan Forum will include three sessions, which aim to present and analyse Japan’s perspective on its future energy model, reconstruction and urban planning in the areas affected by the earthquake, and the role of innovation in its future society. In all these areas, Spain has internationally renowned professionals and leading global businesses, demonstrating the potential for collaboration between the two societies.

The forum will be taking place in the city of Sendai, the capital of one of the prefectures that was most seriously affected by the earthquake that devastated Japan on 11th March; this choice of venue sends out a clear message of solidarity and friendship extended by Spain to Japan.

The Spain-Japan Forum is a platform for dialogue between representatives of civil society from the two countries. It is held every year, alternately in Spain and Japan, and is organised by the Spain Japan Council Foundation and our respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs. The President of the Spanish chapter of the Forum is Josep Piqué i Camps, and the Japanese chapter is led by Shinichi Yokoyama, co-president of the Europe Committee of the Japanese Business Federation, Keidanren. The Spain Japan Council Foundation, created in the year 2001, is a private non-profit entity and is the Permanent Secretary of the Forum. The Secretary General is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

In February, members of this Forum visited the CENER Wind Turbine Test Lab located in Sangüesa, which has become a leading reference in the international wind energy sector. Furthermore, in June, the Japanese television station NHK filmed an extensive report on the CENER facilities, including several interviews with senior executives.
