The CENER Stamp is an environmental quality distinction for buildings, endorsed by the Higher Council of Spanish Associations of Architects (CSCAE), which assesses the quality of the buildings from the sustainability viewpoint and whose main objective is to promote an increase of sustainable construction and thus participate in the moral obligation of contributing to the reduction of energy consumption and to the mitigation of the climate change.
This distinction assesses buildings from three perspectives, associating energy saving and CO2 emission reduction. These are:
The energy consumption of the building, understood as the amount of energy required to satisfy the different needs of the building, associated with normal conditions of use, operation and occupation, during its working life. It depends mainly on the constructive design and on the energy production systems used.
Analysis of the lifecycle of the construction materials, understood as the amount of energy consumed to construct the building, from the energy used to obtain the material (wood, quarry, deposit…) to the moment this material is placed on the site, including transport, proportional part of maintenance and auxiliary energy.
The environmental aspect coefficient that assesses the project from a sustainability viewpoint, analysing aspects not considered in the previous phases, as they are related to energy saving and environmental protection.
