CENER takes part in the project INNPACTO-MULTIBIOM: “Development of multi-fuel biomass combustion technology for electricity production of high power – MULTIBIOM”.
The main objective of the project is to develop a high power boiler, in the range of 15-25 MW electric, for the combustion of multi-fuel biomass renewable 100%, which allows the use of all kinds of biomass, including the most difficult ones (due to its corrosion effects and increased generation of slags and deposits), and requires 2% less biomass than state-of-the-art technology.
The project focuses on the following main research fields:
- Combustion control for multifuel boilers in thermal power plants.
- Behaviour of ash and inorganic elements: corrosion, slagging and fouling.
- Characterization of biomass at power plant
CENER leads the activity 2: ash, and inorganic elements behaviour: CORROSION, SLAGGING AND FOULING. Within this task CENER activities are aimed at the development of a methodology for the prediction of the behaviour of biomass ash and inorganic elements at high temperature in combustion processes in order to predict phenomena of fouling and corrosion and thus improve the reliability of the biomass plant. The methodology is based on the use of a thermodynamic simulation programs applying a strategy of simulation using experimental data from laboratory test and real data from boiler operation.
The project brings together a consortium multidisplicinar led by ACCIONA ENERGÍA, S.A. in which also participate the following entities: TERMISA ENERGIA S.A., IKERLAN S.COOP. and Fundación CENER-CIEMAT.
MULTIBIOM has been co-financed by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness inside of the INNPACTO call 2012, with a budget of 954.039,75€.
