International Congress of Architecture, City and Energy (CIBARQ)

The final aim of this Congress that the Bioclimatic Architecture Department organises on a two-yearly basis, is to critically reflect on today’s city models and architectonic trends, analysing them from a global energy viewpoint, in the firm belief that efficient energy management in cities is one of the basic pillars for sustainability.

Guest speakers at the last congress, which was held in June 2006, included:

  • Glenn Murcutt (2002 Pritzker Prize)
  • Jaime Lerner (President of the International Union of Architects 2002-2005)
  • Bruno Stagno (Institute of Tropical Architecture), among others.

Also, on the occasion of CIBARQ 06 a public call for building projects and experiences was organised, which contemplated energy saving and efficiency criteria. The selected works were displayed during the days the Congress lasted.

This Congress has been held twice, in 2004 and in 2006, with the institutional support of Intelligent Energy Europe (European Commission), the Government of Navarra, the Ministry of Housing and the Higher Council of Spanish Associations of Architects (CSCAE).
