An agreement has been signed this morning at an institutional event presided by the Governor of the region of Bio-Bio, Chile, Jaime Tohá and with the presence of representatives of the region’s main companies and institutions (university rectors), to prepare the “Feasibility Study for a Specialised Technology Centre on Non-Conventional Renewable Energies" in Concepción (Chile).
This study would be funded by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade and developed by the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER). In a first phase, its main objective will be to diagnose the current situation of the energy sector and the development potential of non-conventional renewable energies in Chile and MERCOSUR.
That information will be used to try to define future scenarios, possible strategic and business lines to define the mission and objectives of the future centre as well as to assess its technical, economic and financial feasibility. The feasibility plan will then be prepared, which will be the basis for the creation of a national centre for non-conventional renewable energies, located in the Region of Bio-Bio, although with the ambition to become a national centre and serve the entire MERCOSUR area.
Jeronimo Camacho (Managing Director for Strategic and Business Development) and Julia Elizalde (Head of Communication and Institutional Affairs), representing CENER, were present at the signature ceremony this morning.
