28 October 2010

Deepening the possibilities that exist today from the technical point of view to develop solar energy was the focus of a presentation made last week in Senegal by Marcelino Sánchez, Technical Specialist from the Dept. of Solar Energy at the National Centre for Renewable Energy (CENER).

The Congress was organized by the regional centre of The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Renewable Energy in Senegal. The main objective pursued was to gather experts in this international forum to define and adopt an action and development strategy for solar energy in the west of Africa, taking into account their application such as generating electricity, heating and cooling.

The conference, held between 18 and 21 October in Dakar, had the cooperation of the Government of ECOWAS, United Nations, the Spanish International Cooperation Agency (AECI) and the Austrian Development Corporation (ADA).
