CENER, new president of the european academy of wind energy

15 October 2009

Félix Avia, a technician with CENER’s Department of Wind Energy, has recently been elected the new President of EAWE (European Academy of Wind Energy).

The European Academy of Wind Energy-EAWE covers 30 entities in seven European countries, mostly research centres and universities, which represent over 80% of the core research conducted in the field of Wind Energy in Europe. Its main goals are to promote and coordinate core research and training/education actions in the sector.

CENER coordinates the Spanish cluster, which encompasses the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Carlos III University in Madrid, the Renewable Energies Research Institute (IIER) at Castilla-La Mancha University, the Energy Resources and Consumption Research Centre (CIRCE), and the Technology Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC) as an associated member.

As a representative of CENER, Félix Avia will combine his responsibilities as the President of EWEA with those of an Operator Agent at the Wind Energy Section of the International Energy Agency (IEA Wind) and a member of the Managing Body of the Wind Energy Sector Science and Technology Network (REOLTEC). The IEA is an international organisation spanning 20 countries, which aims to exchange and share information about the planning and execution of national research and development programmes and projects in relation to wind energy. REOLTEC is a national network created in 2005 with a view to integrating and coordinating different actions in the areas of research, development and innovation in response to the needs of the Spanish wind energy sector.

CENER’s involvement in both national and international organisations dedicated to planning, organising and coordinating research and development actions in relation to wind energy provide privileged access to information which affects an energy sector that is currently leading the field of energy planning in different countries.
