A delegation comprised of 10 people, including representatives from institutions and enterprises from the sector, has visited Syria and Damascus this week, in order to assess the possibilities of both countries developing and collaborating in renewable energy projects. This trip was organised by the Secretary of State for Trade, Silvia Iranzo, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from the companies: Gamesa, Iberdrola, MTorres, Ingeteam and Fersa, as well as the Technical Director of CENER, Fernando Sánchez Sudón.
On the first stage of the trip, the Spanish delegation held meetings in Damascus with the Vice Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Syria, Abdullah Dardari, and the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Ahmad Qussay Kayyali. The second part of the trip was spent in the Lebanon, where, apart from a meeting with Lebanese businessmen interested in renewable energies and most especially in wind energy, they held a meeting with the Prime Minister, Saad Hariri.
The opportunity for this trip arose after the recent visit to the Middle East of the President of the Government, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
