CENER, second laboratory in the world to receive certification to test solar concentration modules

29 March 2010

The Solar Photovoltaic Energy Department of CENER has recently been certified according to IEC 62018:07, enabling it to perform tests on photovoltaic concentration modules, in agreement with the specifications of this demanding international standard. CENER has thus become the second laboratory in the world to have this certification. The first was the German centre, TUV, in collaboration with the American university, ASU.

The solar concentration modules use a type of optical device that concentrates the solar light on one point, reducing the size of the photovoltaic cells (the most costly aspect of the manufacturing process), thanks to the aid of a tracking system (solar tracker) so that the modules always face the sun and therefore harness its energy.
