The first CENERplus stamp for environmental excellence granted in building

16 August 2010

  • The CENER+ Stamp for Environmental Excellence evaluates the energy efficiency and life cycle of a building, among other aspects.

The project of 8 single-family homes situated in Aoiz (Navarra) and developed by Construcciones LEACHE, S.L. has been the first project to obtain the CENER+ Stamp for Environmental Excellence in Building, CME+, granted by the National Renewable Energy Centre, CENER.

The CENER CME+ stamp is a sign of environmental excellence for buildings, whose aim is to evaluate their quality from the viewpoint of environmental sustainability. Its main objective is to promote sustainable construction, evaluating the reduction of both the energy consumption and of the emission of greenhouse gases in our cities, which contributes to the mitigation of the climate change.

The CENER stamp assesses the behaviour of buildings in different aspects, such as their energy efficiency, their life cycle analysis (LCA), and with respect to the application of a series of sustainability indicators that assess the ecological footprint of the building.

Eight buildings have currently be certified with the CENER stamp, but until now none had reached the demanding requirements that merit the CME+ sign of environmental excellence.

The project of 8 single-family homes situated in Aoiz (Navarra), developed by Construcciones LEACHE, S.L. and whose project has been drafted by the architect, Jose Maria Urquiza Echavarren, has achieved very high energy efficiency levels (Energy Qualification A), and above all, a very favourable life cycle analysis, thanks to its innovative construction system (entirely in wood), which guarantees very low energy incorporated into its materials and a minimal ecological footprint.
