The La Casa que Ahorra (in English, the House that Saves) Foundation, FLCQA, and the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) have signed a Framework Collaboration Agreement to coordinate and foster actions aimed at promoting energy efficiency and saving in the construction sector, and more especially, at fostering passive measures, reducing the energy demand, applying sustainability criteria and using renewable energies.

The President of the FLCQA, Francisco Javier Fernandez Campal, and the Director General of CENER, Jose Javier Armendariz Quel took part in the signing ceremony of the Agreement.

The first specific action to be carried out as a result of this Agreement is framed within the Urban Habitat Energy Diagnosis Programme, which emerged from the Convention signed last year between the Fundación La Casa que Ahorra Foundation and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, FEMP. CENER will take care of the practical part of the energy studies to be carried out in the five municipalities selected: Arahal, Granollers, Madrid, Santander and Segovia.

The objective of these studies is to make the citizens of the municipalities aware of the problems of energy inefficiency that affect the majority of their buildings. CENER will use different energy diagnosis tools, such as thermographs, which show the energy losses that take place through deficiently insulated walls, thermal bridges, carpentry and low energy efficiency glass, as well as lesions in the envelopes that affect their leaktightness. Computer simulations of the energy performance of these buildings will also used, as well as other diagnosis tools.
