THE WORLD BANK INVITES CENER TO TALK ABOUT SOLAR ENERGY IN BOTSWANA

Informing about the development opportunities for thermosolar electricity plant projects for South Africa is one of the main objectives of the conferences that have been organised by the World Bank (Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP)) in collaboration with the Government of Botswana, on 18 and 19 May, in Gaborone, capital of Botswana. After the opening ceremony by the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources of Botswana, it will be the turn for the intervention of Dr. Manual Blanco, Director of the Thermal Solar Energy Department of CENER, who has been invited as an outstanding international expert. His presentation will be on the current state of development of the main thermosolar electrical technologies, analysing the advantages and disadvantages of each one of them from mainly a technological viewpoint. Over the two days in Gaborone, the many different aspects related to the development of commercial projects for thermosolar electricity plants will be analysed, from aspects related to the technology selection to those related to the definition of the economic-financial structure of the construction and operation projects of the plants. The aim is to provide experts from the electrical companies as well as government institutions from Botswana and from other countries in South Africa, with the necessary information for them to be able to assess the development potential of these technologies in the region.
