CENER once again secures accreditation for solar tracker testing according to IEC 62817 Qualification Standard

The Photovoltaic Components Laboratory of the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER – www.cener.com) conducts tests on key photovoltaic components, with a particular focus on modules and solar trackers.

For over 10 years, CENER has performed solar tracker testing to facilitate the certification of products from some of the world’s leading manufacturers. These components are essential for photovoltaic plants, as they maximize solar radiation capture on PV modules, thereby increasing energy generation levels. However, these components are not immune to issues during their 30+ year lifespan operating outdoors; therefore, meeting the standard’s requirements is of vital importance.

The IEC 62817 certification accredits that the tested samples have passed specific electrical, precision, mechanical, climatic, and functional tests. This significantly enhances both component reliability and project bankability, reasons why there is such high sensitivity regarding these tests within the industry.

CENER is the only laboratory accredited by ENAC (National Accreditation Body) for these tests and, as a result, has been a benchmark in this field for the past decade.

The centre utilizes its own proprietary methodology for testing and currently works with numerous tracker manufacturers, supporting them throughout their product development and witnessing firsthand the increase in tracker production both in Spain and across Europe.

Furthermore, the experience gained from these tests, combined with the technical expertise of the centre’s scientists, has enabled the development of technological advancements that can be implemented in components to optimize solar tracker functionality. This includes new algorithmic logic, tracking sensors, and other innovative solutions focused on technology optimization and LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) reduction, all of which are part of both commercial and R&D projects at the centre.
