CENER – CELSOS OFFERS SOLUTIONS FOR THE EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF PHOTOVOLTAIC DEFECTS THROUGH ELECTROLUMINESCENCE
At the National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER), we are proud to share a major milestone in our journey and, above all, excellent news for the future of photovoltaic assets.
Several years ago, we decided to explore an innovative path and develop a pioneering technology with a clear goal: to revolutionize photovoltaic plant inspections and maximize their efficiency. This was achieved through electroluminescence (EL) techniques, which enable the detection, identification, and classification of defects in photovoltaic modules on a massive scale. This development culminated in a technology capable of performing both aerial inspections (via drone) and ground inspections (using a proprietary Kit Electroluminiscence Inspection Kit – Celsos), supported by advanced image processing and analysis software.

To test this technology at scale and provide it with maximum operational agility, we decided to spin it off as an independent entity under the name CELSOS (Celsos – Smart inspections for top performance – Celsos). During its years of autonomous operation, the technology has not only proven its success in the market but has also consolidated its position as a robust, reliable, and highly competitive solution.
Now, following a strategic business decision, the cycle is successfully completed: the spin-off returns to CENER. We are fully reintegrating CELSOS as a core business line, delivering solar asset solutions through specialized electroluminescence services.
This strategic union combines the best of both worlds. On one hand, we maintain the agility, technical specialization, and innovation of the technology. On the other, we add the deep expertise and resources of a centre with extensive experience in photovoltaic module testing. Furthermore, this new business line perfectly complements other testing services conducted at the centre’s photovoltaic components laboratory, which is ENAC-accredited in accordance with the industry’s leading standards.
Core Business Operations. The core business activities of this line include both on-site plant inspections and an inspection service delivered via an online platform, which clients can operate autonomously. This platform is designed to operate both in module manufacturing environments (directly on the production line) and in operational plant environments (directly at power generation facilities). It can process videos and images, analysing them to detect, identify, and classify photovoltaic module defects.
Value Proposition. Our value proposition is stronger today than ever. We continue to offer a highly efficient photovoltaic inspection technology that enables asset quality control and minimizes project risk. Moreover, CENER’s comprehensive experience and infrastructure serve as a lasting guarantee of quality, one that we are now proudly offering once again through CELSOS.
For all stakeholders committed to quality and the early detection of photovoltaic module defects, we are fully open to exploring customized solutions tailored to our clients’ specific needs.
