IEA OC3: Offshore Codes Comparison Collaborative

  • 2007-2010

PROJECT SCOPE

Annex 23 of the IEA, also called OC3 (Offshore Codes Comparison Collaborative), consists of a comparison of different simulations of offshore wind turbines carried out by various institutions (companies, universities, research centers…) with different simulation codes.

The objectives of this comparison exercise consist of: identifying and verifying the capabilities and limitations of the offshore turbine analysis models, also establishing the range of confidence in the predictions of the models, in addition to establishing analysis methodologies and finally, identify areas that need further investigation and validation.

CENER´s ROLE

CENER-ADA Participation:

  • Phase I: monopile model with various types of foundations. Development of the models and simulations of the cases with the FAST code.
  • Phase II: tripod model. Modeling of the wind turbine with FAST and coupling with a NASTRAN model of the tripod.
  • PHASE III: floating spar-buoy model. Collaboration in the development of the model for the participants in the project.
