UPWIND
- 2006-2011
PROJECT SCOPE
The UPWIND project is one of the reference projects of the VI Framework Program of the European Union. His main focus is on the design of large wind turbines for use in land and offshore conditions. The project is organized in transversal work packages that interact with each other to achieve an integral machine development.
Its first objective is the development of advanced calculation tools as well as new machine concepts -components-, necessary for the industry to be able to design and manufacture new high-power wind turbines (10-20MW), both Onshore and Offshore. Additionally, it is proposed to study the influence of factors external to the machine that directly affect its design; cost models, fleet configuration, network integration technologies, control strategies, measurement systems, etc.
CENER´s ROLE
The participation of Cener-ADA has consisted of:
- Aeroelastic and aeroacoustic studies of profiles for high-power machines.
- Development of tools for the study of adhesive lines under advanced methods based on fracture mechanics. Validation with tests.
- Participation in the development of IPC (Individual Pitch Control) control systems.

Funded under FP6-SUSTDEV. General budget €22,618,628
