First CELSOS project in the Middle East

Whether as quality control in the commissioning phase or as part of predictive/corrective maintenance, the inspection of photovoltaic installations is in fashion.
In recent years, Electroluminescence, along with infrared thermography and visual inspection, have become the industry standards for the aforementioned purposes. However, Electroluminescence, even though it is the most powerful technology for detecting defects in photovoltaic modules, has not been widely deployed due to the fact that it poses certain difficulties in field execution.
We will not go into detail but it is enough to know that the extraction of Electroluminescence images requires special cameras, dark environment conditions and the biasing of the modules to the short-circuit current.
In an world in which photovoltaic installations are getting bigger and have an increasingly stressed value and cost chain, CELSOS emerges, a complete, digital technology developed and validated by CENER, through which Electroluminescence becomes accessible and cost-efficient in photovoltaic projects of all types and sizes. All this through the use of drones and processing of a large amounts of images thanks to the algorithms that artificial intelligence offers.
Last June, CELSOS team traveled to Saudi Arabia, where a client had requested us to carry out a complete diagnosis of its installation, in this case a “rooftop” type with 9,500 modules, distributed in 3 separate buildings and with a clear objective; determine what problems his installation had, their severity or seriousness as well as what were the causes or reasons why they had been caused. In this way, the client could make the appropriate decisions regarding the future of his installation.
CELSOS deployed its human and technical resources for 5 days on the client’s facilities. The project was successfully completed by the CELSOS team, but not before overcoming several challenges along the way, some of a logistical or bureaucratic nature, but above all of an operational and technical nature. Upon his return to Spain, the information was processed on CENER servers and the client received his reports as well as access to the information on the status of his installation on the CELSOS Interactive Platform.
CELSOS currently continues to operate in Spain with an extensive portfolio of projects for 2023, is making new contracts and investments in equipment, and with all this it hopes, hand in hand with its clients and collaborators, to continue providing solutions aligned with the needs of the PV sector.
