HELIOSCHAR+: Advanced Heliostat Characterization System for Solar Tower Plants
TECHNOLOGY READINESS LEVEL (TRL): 7-8
IP STATUS: The technology is protected by an international patent. WO/2020/021147

Value Proposition

Helioschar+ is an advanced system designed to characterize solar tower plant heliostats with high precision. Unlike the conventional screen and camera method, which is ineffective on small or distant heliostats, this system uses optoelectronic detectors and vertically arranged cameras that analyze the reflected beam by taking advantage of the natural movement of the sun. The heliostat remains stationary during measurement, allowing for robust and reproducible results. This approach provides detailed data on the optical and geometric quality of each heliostat, including facet edging, solar tracking and pointing accuracy, reaching errors of less than 0.1 mrad, below the state of the art.

Added Value

The technology offers an increase in production of around 3% in 150 MWe plants, with return periods of less than one year.

Market Applications

Its business model combines the sale of equipment with specialized characterization services, adaptable to both small pilot installations and large industrial solar fields.

TRL

The development has reached an advanced level (TRL 7-8), with tests in different operating environments that have validated its effectiveness and versatility against varied solar field configurations. The technology is protected by an international patent. WO/2020/021147
