HIL: HARDWARE IN THE LOOP SIMULATION
TECHNOLOGY READINESS LEVEL (TRL) : 6
IP STATUS: The IP is protected under industrial secret.

Value Proposition

Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation delivers a powerful value proposition by enabling safe, accelerated, and cost-effective development of complex embedded systems. It allows engineers to rigorously test physical control hardware—like an ECU, battery management system, or flight controller—against a real-time, high-fidelity virtual simulation of its operating environment and the rest of the system.

Added Value

Simulation process (MIL-SIL-HIL-PHIL) could help to mitigate immense risk by uncovering critical software and integration flaws before physical prototypes or the final product exist, preventing costly late-stage redesigns and potential field failures. By decoupling hardware and software development, HIL dramatically compresses validation cycles, allows for exhaustive testing of dangerous edge-case scenarios (e.g., sensor failures, extreme temperatures) that are unsafe or impossible to replicate physically, and reduces dependency on scarce, expensive prototypes. The result is a faster time-to-market, significantly lower development costs, and a more robust, reliable final product.

Market Applications

HIL simulation is a critical validation tool across industries where software-controlled hardware must operate with extreme reliability under complex, dynamic, and often unsafe conditions. Its core value of enabling safe, comprehensive, and repeatable testing is applied in these key markets:

  • Power Electronics & Energy Systems
  • Automotive & Transportation
  • Aerospace & Defense
  • Industrial Machinery & Robotics

TRL

HIL simulation as a methodology and toolchain is a mature, industrially proven technology and solidly. However, the TRL of any specific application of HIL varies based on what is being tested.
