Value Proposition

IGLOO introduces a new approach to thermal storage in concentrating solar plants and Power-to-Heat-to-Power systems. Its design is based on self-contained tanks in which solid salts are an integral part of the structure, eliminating corrosion problems, thermal stresses and size limitations typical of conventional metal tanks. Inspired by civil engineering techniques such as tunnels and canals, the system uses the salt itself as an expansion joint, absorbing movements during thermal cycles and ensuring long-term stability and tightness without the need to duplicate installations.

Added Value

The potential for impact is significant: it is estimated that IGLOO can reduce operating costs by 20-30% in large-scale CSP plants, offering developers a scalable, modular and highly sustainable solution in a market in the midst of energy transition.

Market Applications

The business model prioritizes licensing EPC companies, with options to supply molten salt tanks or integrate the system into complete storage solutions.

TRL

It is currently in the early validation phase (TRL 3-4). Initial prototypes have confirmed its feasibility, and the construction of a demonstrator is planned within the framework of European projects, which will allow the leap towards industrialization. The technology is protected by an international patent (pending publication).
